Situated just west of Paso Robles, Michael Gill Cellars the second stop on our wine tour has a long history of award winning wines. With soil and temperatures simular to the Rhone Valley, MGC is a scenic and romantic place to do a wine tasting or a special event. 

THE VINEYARD
In a rolling landscape of oak trees, the small vineyards are potent and exquisite.  On the westside of Paso Robles the weather and soil combine to create a growing area similar to the Rhone Valley. The 50-degree daily temperature fluctuation allows a longer hang time.

MICHAEL GILL
Michael bought the property in the mid-1970s. With the mentorship of his neighbor Robert Nadeau, Michael planted the Syrah Vines in 1998.

Gill grew the grapes and sold the juice to other wineries for 10 years. Gathering awards for others with his grapes. That changed in 2008 when he built his own winery. His first vintage has 2008. Within a few years, the awards started to show the competence and work he put in. 

He received his first award in 2014 and has gotten 57 more since then.

WINE TASTING IN STYLE
While French hunting lodge-inspired this beautiful tasting room. It evokes images of a time gone by. All the while you are surrounded by vineyards and century-old oaks. Offering a classical indulgence not often found in Paso Robles.

This is a very approachable and tasty wine, especially for a grape that can be so tannic when young. Aromas of cola, chopped mint and cherries translate to a fruity and minty palate, with just enough tannins, a nice acidic spice and a bit of woodiness on the finish. It's very well measured.
